David Hyams & The Miles To Go Band

"The band includes some of the finest players of Celtic music in the country and is a refreshing combination of imaginative new material with deep respect for source traditions...There is nothing else quite like them in Australia." Fairbridge Festival Artistic Director Steve Barnes

Since their first show in 1999, the Miles To Go band have been living up to their name, travelling extensively around the country from their home base of Fremantle.

Multi – instrumentalist and vocalist, David Hyams leads this collection of WA’s finest musicians on a world spanning array of instruments, all coming from diverse musical backgrounds; percussionist Dana Ogle; bassist Manoli Vouyoucalos, multi-instrumentalist Dan Bright on guitar and didgeridoo; Stuart Patterson on wood flute; and Brett Hirsch on Irish bagpipes and whistles.

The band’s celtic infused mix has broadened over the years with new songs from Hyams’ adding country, blues and jazz tinges, while continuing to explore places and stories of our vast landscape - from the stunning night sky of the Kimberley and the north’s oceans of wilderness, to winding southern coastal tracks…

The band line up tours regularly across the country for music festivals and concert shows. In 2009, the Australian newspaper described them as one of the “standout acts” of the massive Woodford Folk Festival in Queensland and 2010 saw them making their first foray into North America as a trio line up, after an invitation to showcase at the Folk Alliance Convention in Memphis.

The band has received many accolades, including 8 nominations for “Best World Music Act” at the WA Music Industry’s “WAM” awards.

In 2014 they were a headliner at the 2014 Fairbridge Festival and 2015 sees them airing some material from the upcoming third album.
