WINTER BLUES FEST

THE NORTHSHORE TAVERN, HILLARYS

SUNDAY 27TH JULY 11AM-9 P.M.

Opportunities like this one don’t come calling all that often and for live music lovers in Perth’s northern suburbs, the inaugural WINTER BLUES FEST presents them with an array of the best West Aussie Blues artists all in the one venue on the same day.

13 different acts on two stages, delivering 10 hours of continuous music from some of the stalwarts of the local Blues fraternity and the younger generation of upcoming talent carrying the Blues genre flame.

The headline act is DAVE HOLE, WA’s biggest international artist who continues to deliver his energetic slide guitar and powerhouse performances around the world.
For those with longer memories, think back with nostalgia to the heady days of the Sunday sessions at The Castle Hotel beer garden in North Beach and come along to capture a rare gig by Dave Hole and his band in Perth’s northern suburbs.

RICK STEELE is undoubtedly one of a kind and he continues to draw audiences in with his witty repartee and ability to channel Dylan better than the man himself. In his capacity as Perth Blues Club President for umpteen years, Rick has done more than anyone to promote Blues to a wider audience, stretching the boundaries much further than just 12 bar Blues standards. Backed by ON THE LEVEL, this will be one of the highlights of the day.

VDELLI are a Blues Rock trio fronted by guitar wizard, MICHAEL VDELLI. They regularly tour Europe where they have a huge fan base and always give a 100%, no matter how many punters are there.

Proving very popular on the Aussie Festival circuit, ANDREW WINTON never ceases to amaze audiences with his cleverly written songs and strong delivery on his custom-made guitars, including a 13 string double-necked lap guitar, plus some amateur throat singing and quirky vocals that bring a smile to many a face.
He will be joined on percussion by the ever-so- versatile JOE WHITTLE.

They might call themselves OLD BLOOD but it is new blood coursing through their veins. Frontman, TONY PAPA-ADAMS, holds the audience’s attention with his theatrical approach to his vocals, whilst 21 year old lead guitarist, EDO EKIC, casts a spell on everyone with his awesome talent and natural feel for his instrument.

Take a walk down memory lane when LINDSAY WELLS comes on stage with his band, AWESOME WELLS, and watch the sparks fly off his guitar. One time member of famed Perth bands, Fatty Lumpkin and The Sneekers, he can deliver Hendrix or Stevie Ray on a plate and throw in some of his originals to boot.

Boasting one of the finest female voices on the circuit, CHELSEA J. GIBSON DUO is sure to leave you screaming for more. Her vocals have been described as “able to strip paint”, yet Chelsea can also be as smooth as velvet on classic slower Blues songs such as Etta James’ “At Last”. Joining her on guitar will be SAM MUSCA.

House Band for the monthly NORTHERN BLUES N ROOTS WA gigs is the prodigious ON THE LEVEL, showcasing the vocal talent of DAVE GILLAM, lead guitar of PAUL FITTON and the captivating keyboard work of BILL BLISSETT, powered along by a top class rhythm section.

Special guest, KATHY EARL, will jump up to perform a few songs with the band, adding yet another dimension.

In a pared down version of their band, THE DIAMOND DAVES, featuring DAVE BILLING on vocals and harmonica and DAVE BREWER on unbelievable guitar, will bring Chicago-stlye Blues to the fore, ably assisted by the Russian on percussion, YUGAN CHOBANOFF.

MOONDOG J hails from Denmark in our South-West and his delivery on guitar, harmonica and vocals suggests that there is an older Bluesman living inside his young body. He lives and breathes the Blues and he will be featuring his good mate, EDO EKIC, during his set.

More youthful talent takes to the stage in the form of MIDNIGHT SUN, a duo comprising KAT KINLEY on keyboards and vocals and JASON SMITH on guitar. She may be small in stature but her voice certainly packs a punch.

RUNNING WITH SCISSORS brings together the guitar work of STEVE GARDE and the fine vocals of FIONA O’BRIEN, a combination that is sure to impress.
